Pseudomnesical Argument
In this episode, we will explore the "Argument of Reality", also known as the "Pseudomnesic Argument", which delves into the concepts of false thinking, false reality, and false truth.
The term "pseudomnesic" pertains to "false thought." It derives from the Greek words ψευδής (psevdís) meaning 'false,' and μνήμη (mnēmē) meaning 'memory.'
The Pseudomnesic Argument is an intriguing philosophical proposition developed by atheista ng pilipinas. It examines the notion that God's creation of the human mind lacks the capacity to discern whether reality is genuine or merely an illusion.
This argument raises fundamental questions: Is reality authentic, or is it a grand illusion? How can we substantiate, validate, or measure reality?
Numerous individuals adhere to beliefs in mythical creatures such as tikbalang (werehorse), duwende (dwarves), monsters, aswang (ghouls), kapre (giants), talking snakes, mermaids, unicorns, dragons, fairies, women came from men's rib, heaven, hell, and that God created the devil. These beliefs, often rooted from religious texts like the Bible, are considered truths by some. This is an example of false reality derived from cultural traditions.
Other people believe in Santa Claus, Batman, Superman, Darna, Captain Barbel, Dyesebel, and Buddha. This is also an example of false reality derived from human imagination. Like in the Bible, these figures are also considered real by some, despite being creations of human imagination.
From a scientific perspective, experts in fields such as neuroscience, mathematics, philosophy, and technology may consider these beliefs as fabrications of the human mind, a false creation of the human belief.
If we examine the physical reality of nature, we sense that the physical reality of nature is also an illusion. This was proven in the last episode where the things we see in our physical environment are not real. They are merely illusions created by our minds or our surroundings.
For example, the tree we see is not real. It is only a construct of different shapes forming a physical tree. We also stated that if the atom is not alive, and man is composed of atoms, it means that man is not alive either. Here, we see that man does not have the ability to know what is true or not because there are two opposing views on whether our reality is true or merely an illusion.
Now, let's examine other evidence why our reality is an illusion.
If your cellphone is on the table right now, you might say it is not moving, right? Here, you can say this reality is true. However, if I tell you that your cellphone is moving even if it is placed on the table, you might call me ignorant. But I will tell you that everything on the table, your chair, your bed, are all moving.
How can this be? The cellphone on your table is moving because the Earth is rotating around the sun. If you were on the moon now with a telescope pointed at your cellphone on the table, you would see your cellphone moving according to the Earth's rotation and its orbit around the sun. This means your cellphone, you, and everything in your room and on Earth are all moving in a circle. But your reality tells you this is not true, you are not rotating. Here you will notice whether your reality is really true or just an illusion.
Let's continue. Actually, your cellphone is not just rotating. Because the Earth is part of a galaxy, and our galaxy is spiraling, your cellphone is not just rotating, but also spiraling. But our galaxy is also part of dark matter that is expanding or moving straight away from the universe. This means your cellphone is not just rotating, spiraling, and moving straight, it is also moving down due to gravity and up due to pressure.
Here we see that the reality of the things we see in the world are merely illusions and because of this, they are not true.
Let's look at another example why our reality is merely an illusion. I will call this the LRT effect, as it is again a work of a Filipino. Imagine you are riding a train. This train will travel through a long, dark tunnel. As the train moves slowly, you will see the people around you. You will see their faces, their forms, their luggage, the windows, and the seats. As the train speeds up and it is inside the dark tunnel, you will see everything is indistinguishable. As time goes by, you will only see everything is black. You cannot see the people, the luggage, the seats, and even yourself. But you still feel that you have a body, you still have feet and hands, and you still have a mind. As more time passes, you will gradually not feel your feet, hands, and entire body. Only your mind remains. At this point, you suddenly realize whether you exist or only your mind is creating your reality?
In this example, we see that true physical reality is merely an illusion. The people and luggage inside the train are creations of our mind. Our mind dictates what is true and what is not, what is reality and what is illusion.
Due to the LRT Effect, we show that everything on the train is colorless. This means everything is black. Similarly, everything in the world is also black. The colors we see in our environment are merely illusions like color.
Is this true? If you look at the sunlight, it is white. But this is not true. It is also an illusion because sunlight has many colors. These colors, called ROYGBIV, can be seen in a rainbow. Hence, the plant is green because it is illuminated by the green light of the sun. Without the sun, the plant is black. The apple is red because it is illuminated by the red light of the sun. Without the sun, the apple is black. Everything we see is seen because they are illuminated by the sun, without the sun, everything is black.
Therefore, in these examples, we prove that our reality is not true and they are merely illusions.
Therefore, we see that if God has a perfect creation and mind, he should have created a mind that has the capability to understand what is Truth or Reality. But because He created a weak mind that cannot comprehend what is true and real, this shows that His mind is not perfect.
This mental flaw of God or memory lapse indicates a solid evidence that proves God is not perfect and does not know everything because He failed to foresee that if the human mind cannot comprehend reality, He will never be recognized as well.
This means, if:
1. God created the mind.
2. However, the mind cannot comprehend the truth or reality.
3. Therefore, God will never be recognized.
In this episode, we prove that there are two types of reality: the reality of truth and the reality of illusion. Because of this, if God is true, it is impossible to know whether He is true or not because the human mind cannot comprehend what is reality or what is illusion. This proves that if God knows everything, he should have created a human mind that has the ability to know true reality so that He can be recognized as a true God.
In the next episode, we will discuss the argument of morality, where we will ask whether God is necessary for a person to have morality. Do we need God to be good people?
* The term "paradromical" refers to something that deviates from its course or goes beyond its expected path. It's closely related to the idea of a "slip" or "deviation" like slip of memory (paradromí mnímēs).
